ALEXA is ARRI's new compact, lightweight and affordable digital camera that will redefine the limits of motion picture capture with ultra-fast workflows and image quality akin to 35mm film. From major motion pictures and high end dramas to commercials, music videos and mainstream TV, ALEXA suits a wide variety of applications and budgets.
Simple User Interface
The ALEXA is very easy to operate, and most functions are self-explanatory. In addition to the camera right side, many settings can be controlled and changed through the ALEXA electronic viewfinder
Compatible all the way
While making a dramatic leap forward in digital image quality and workflow speed, ALEXA is compatible with lenses, accessories and postproduction tools that are already well established.
Perfect for Handheld
Camera and electronic viewfinder are ergonomically designed around the operator. ALEXA is portable and well balanced, can be taken anywhere and mounted on anything
ALEXA can be comfortably operated handheld or on a Steadicam rig for extended periods, even when mounted with additional accessories such as monitors or lights. Dedicated hardware buttons, flexible soft buttons and a user-friendly jog wheel make setting parameters such as frame rate, shutter angle and white balance easy enough to learn in minutes.
It's a true ARRI
ALEXA has a high-precision integrated camera housing with an ergonomic design. There is enough room and plenty of attachment points to mount accessories like wireless transmitters, Cinetape, lens control systems etc.
ALEXA's Unibody design is more lightweight and robust than a completely modular approach. ALEXA is rugged, reliable and flexible. The camera electronics are contained in a sealed compartment in the center of the camera to make it splash and dust proof.
Tapeless, effortless and efficient
No other broadcast or motion picture camera bridges the gap between production and postproduction as simply and elegantly as ALEXA. By utilizing the Apple ProRes codecs, ALEXA offers the most streamliend and cost effective workflow possible.
Direct To Edit - no rendering, no confusion
ALEXA records Apple QuickTime files in Apple ProRes 4444 or Apple ProRes 422(HQ) onto on-board SxS memory cards. These files can then be edited immediately, without the need for transcoding or any other conversion.
The high performance of the Apple ProRes 4444 and Apple ProRes 422(HQ) codecs gives productions utilizing an HD workflow the freedom to transfer final quality images from the camera into post without even leaving the set. Recording in the exact format used by Apple Final Cut Pro removes the hassle of transcoding and takes full advantage of the speed and power of the editing software: there is no waiting for ingestion; no file conversion; no rendering and no confusion. This is the fastest and simplest method of increasing production efficiency through tapeless, file-based recording.
The Electronic Viewfinder
ALEXA's qualities are matched in the EVF-1, a lightweight and compact viewfinder with high contrast, stable color reproduction and with a latency of less than 1 frame.
ALEXA's Electronic Viewfinder EVF-1
The EVF-1 employs an LCOS imaging device together with a temperature stabilized LED light source to provide an accurate and bright view of the sensor image under all operating conditions.
A View with Surround View
Important image related parameters, customizable framelines and operator-friendly surround view - to catch the boom before it is in the shot!
The EVF-1 can display the 10% surround view area of the sensor to help the operator track unwanted elements before they enter the recorded image area. Focus can be checked by temporarily zooming into the image center with a pixel-to-pixel magnification.
Power management
The camera accepts any input voltage from 11-34 V DC. Different power sources can be connected to the camera at once. The camera's power management ensures that the power source with the highest voltage level is used. Power sources are hot-swappable to minimize the risk of sudden power loss. Switching power sources without the need to reboot saves valuable time during a shoot.
